You start by connecting an existing server and using it, then learn the three primitives — tools the model can call, resources it can read, prompts the server exposes — and the distinction between them that most implementations get wrong. The core module is a build: an MCP server from scratch in Python, with schemas, handlers, structured errors and testing through the inspector. You finish by writing a client, wiring Claude into a real external system, and configuring it into Claude Desktop and Claude Code — with a hard look at what a server should never expose.
