Program Overview

A working MCP server and a production one are separated by everything in this course. You start with the advanced patterns most people never reach — sampling, where a server asks the model for a completion; notifications and progress; roots for scoping what a server may see; and elicitation for asking the user mid-task. You then build a filesystem server with proper sandboxing and deliberately try to break it, because path traversal is the failure that ends careers. The core module is reliability: transport mechanisms, connection lifecycle, what happens when a server dies mid-call, timeouts, cancellation, and tracing a tool call that silently did nothing. It closes on production: authentication, rate limits, logging tool calls without logging secrets, and packaging for a team.
